Colophon
These pages are based on an original CSS template called "Uncomplicated" by J David Macor with various tweaks by us. We like it because, as you'll see if you disable all CSS, it relies solely on CSS for its design so degrades nicely to plain text for blind or partially sighted people relying on text readers.
It uses two fonts:
- Most of the text uses a Google font called Varela Round based on the well known font Varela which we feel has great readability. Google say of it:
Its rounded corners make it perfect for a soft feel and work great at any size. It is suitable for headlines and printed collateral, and maintains its distinct properties amongst other objects. Varela Round is a great font for any website.
- The
monospace
text is Fantasque Sans Mono by Jany Belluz from the Open Font Library1. We think it's rather cool and it has some nice little bits of loopy business on things likek
andy
which we like. It is coloured #006633 to make it stand out from the body text.
All the photographs are of bears in The Hug including Big Clive, the bear top right, who is our postmaster. When you visit do ask to be introduced to Big Clive ... there's a reason he's called "Big".
- Although we're now hosting the font files ourselves as their server seems to be permanently slashdotted which was making my page load times slow.
